GROMANCE

Good friends are hard to find.

This post is dedicated to my good friend and blogging buddy Krystle of Fly Vintage.  She's moving to New York in less than 2 weeks to pursue her dreams. There's no doubt she'll achieve whatever she sets out to do.  But......who will play on the playground with me now?!

Hats Off to Eugenia Kim and Comments on Comments

Oh Target, how I love your collaborations. I'll get up really early on a Sunday to shop your stores.  I'll go to 4 locations in less than 24 hours to get my hands on the pieces I desire.

My latest Target crush is their line by Eugenia Kim, a NYC based milliner. Her regular creations sell for around $200 a pop, but these fabulous hats go for $16.99 each!  What a deal!

Cardigan: Tory Burch, T-shirt: Old Navy

Coat: Gap, Necklace: Purchased at Shecky's Girls Night Out

Pick them up online or in your local Target store before they disappear.

Another topic of interest is that some of you may have noticed I shut down my comments a while back.  I was starting to rely on the number of comments I got to tell me how good my posts were. If I only got 1 or none - did that mean it was really awful? How come some of the simplest posts got the biggest response?

Do other bloggers feel this way?

Anyway, I've decided that even though I tend to obsess sometimes, I miss your comments! I've promised myself to only focus on how good it feels to get positive feedback. So comment your heart out!  Or don't.  Either is fine by me :)

Celebration

I'm back from a week long trip to Florida.  I stayed in a community called Celebration, just outside Orlando and spitting distance from the Disney parks. In fact, the whole town was designed by the Walt Disney Company!

While the entire area is full of modern amenities, the atmosphere is much more Pleasantville in nature.  From the architecture to the friendly neighbors, Celebration is a special place.  I just had to take some photos!

I wanted to show a denim look here. This dress came from a thrifting trip with Fly Vintage. She picked it out for me! It has such a feminine cut, you hardly even realize it's denim. If you're wary of trying the denim trend, shoot for pieces that are body conscious and feminine like this one. It helps tone down the "I'M WEARING SO MUCH DENIM!!" vibe.

If you're ever in the market for a trip to warm weather and good company, I highly recommend visiting Celebration, Florida. Its relaxed pace will surely do you well.

Magical Mouse

I'm off to spend time with my friends Mickey and Minnie.  They're inviting me for some childlike wonder and an escape from the adult world.  I'll be sure to tell them you said hello.

Au Revoir. Ciao. Adios. Auf Wiedersehen. Goodbye. :)

What's Up, Doc?

The Doctor is in. Doctor Marten, that is.

I still remember how excited I was when I got my first pair of Dr. Martens in high school. I loved their gummy soles and bright yellow stitching that told the world they were legit.

At the beginning of 2010 I began coveting Docs again. This time I wanted a pair of the iconic 1460s.  I found these in white on Zappos.  I used my credit card cash-back bonus points to pay for all but $14 of them!

These boots make me feel invincible. I love bringing back an icon and mixing it with my new pieces.  It's so fun to throwback if you can make it work. What would you bring back if you could? Let me know on my Facebook page !

Outfit: Dress: a thrift store gift from my dear photographer friend Hilda Burke (check out her amazing work here ), Belts: both thrifted, Hair Clip: Buy Choice, Ring: Forever 21, Gauntlets: just some cut up stockings :), Boots: DR MARTENS!!!!

Fauxshionable Chicagoans - City Girl Chicago

I love talking to people about their personal style.  Who better to ask to than my sorority sister (hehe!) and fashion savvy gal, Cara of City Girl Chicago?  I snapped some pics of her takes on "a day in the city" and "date night" looks and interviewed her about style and the city she loves.  Doesn't she look gorgeous?

Fauxshionable:  So, City Girl – how would you describe your personal style?

CGC:  I’d say classically modern with a bit of edge. When I’m dressing for fun, I try to incorporate some rocker chic touches to add interest.

Fauxshionable:  And where do you buy these classic/rocker duds?

CGC:  I love stopping in little boutiques around the city ~ the shops that line Damen are my favorites when I can afford them. I don’t necessarily look for name brands – just quality fabrics, cut, and textures.

Fauxshionable:  I have to ask about where you find bargains, obviously.

CGC:  I love mixing high-quality classic pieces with trendier items to achieve that balance I’m always after. H&M on State Street is great for being on trend – they rotate their fashions so often, there’s always a great deal to find.

Fauxshionable:  If you could have 1 high end piece – any piece at all – what would it be?

CGC:  The classic Herve Leger bandage dress.  It shows off a woman’s figure without being over the top.

Fauxshionable:  Now on to the city we love so much.  What’s your favorite spot in Chicago?

CGC:  That is a loaded question!  I have a favorite in every category, but I think Chicago has one of the most amazing food scenes, so my pick would have to be a restaurant. (And if not a restaurant, I would have to say the lakefront is the best way to experience the city).  Spring is the ultimate for me. It’s in a converted bath house and there is still evidence of its history all around.  It’s hip without trying, has exquisite contemporary Asian-fusion cuisine, and exceptional service.

Fauxshionable:  One more and I’ll leave you alone, I swear! Describe your ideal day in the Chi.

CGC:  I’d make a good breakfast at home and then head downtown for some light shopping. Then I would stop by the new Modern Wing at the Art Institute to browse exhibits and cap off the day with dinner and drinks in a chic and urban setting like the Wit, the Tasting Room, and so many more.

Thanks so much, Cara!  Check out her blog here !
