Heel Yourself

My friend Dana has a real talent for finding the most amazing shoes at reasonable prices.  Whenever I need a stunner pair, I go to her first for ideas. She has so graciously agreed to share her gift with you here on Fauxshionable.

You Can Have This…
By Dana Schultz Kwit

If you’ve ever read Glamour magazine, you’ve seen the feature "you can have this…or ALL of this." It's usually accompanied by a series of pictures containing ONE greasy cheeseburger with 1,500 calories alongside steamed spinach, roasted chicken, sweet potatoes, and some chocolate dessert for the same amount.

Most of us see this, roll our eyes and say what I always say: “Yeah right, ok - but it’s not as good as the cheeseburger.” While the cheeseburger is still worth the calories, sometimes it’s just better to give your waist line a bit of a break. The same can be said for shoes. You can buy a stunning pair of Giuseppe Zanotti or Jimmy Choo or you can buy three equally delicious but less branded pairs. I promise you, these shoes are just as good as the 1,500 calorie cheeseburger.

Get ready to stop the eye rolling.

You can have this…

Tory Burch 'Jeannie' Wedge Sandal
Price Tag: $325

Or ALL of this:
Nine West ‘Keenster’ $89

Seychelles ‘Eye to Eye’ $110

Calvin Klein ‘Fanya’ $128

Grand Total: $327

Since spring is (hopefully) right around the corner, I thought it appropriate to feature my favorite style shoe for the start of nice weather: wedges! All three of these amazing shoes can be found at Piperlime.com. The Seychelles pair even made Rachel Zoe’s top picks!

Happy shoe shopping.

That Vertical City with Unimaginable Diamonds

My 3rd and final New York post.

The day began with a visit to the Brooklyn Museum where we checked out ancient Egyptian artifacts (my favorite) and I found inspiration for a new way to decorate my condo. I was completely enraptured by the modern colors in the Cupola House from 1725.

It may be cliche to wait in line for cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery, but I could care less. Have you tried those things?! It's become a tradition for us now.  Before we enjoyed our desserts, we ate at Grey Dog's Coffee on Carmine Street. Yummy, gigantic sandwiches to suit all palates.

Our final activity was enjoying the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. The most enjoyable dance was "I'm Old Fashioned," based on the film sequence You Were Never Lovelier, starring Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth. It was a beautiful way to wrap up what was definitely one of the most fun trips I've taken. Thank you to Krystle and her main man Tim for being such great hosts!

Hope to see you soon, New York (and Fly).

Be a Part of it: NY, NY

The second day of my New York trip was all about fashion, friendships, and FOOD! Three of my favorite things.

This was my day look: purposely short pants and wing tip oxfords with a vintage fur topper.

Our lunch destination was a recommendation from my hair stylist back in Chicago. We thoroughly enjoyed the salad du jour, signature burger, and piping hot cups of tea.

Under my coat:

On to one of our favorite activities: NAILS!

I found my signature color.

After shopping for my engagement photo looks on the island (no, I'm not showing you yet), we headed back to Brooklyn and to Prime Meats for dinner.

FYI: They have a staff of hot men in dress shirts and vests.

Scrumptious.

3rd post is the charm...coming up soon.

A Whole New York

My recent trip to visit Fly Vintage in NYC was more than just fun; it was utterly inspirational. The sites, the clothes, and Fly's incredible hostess skillz gave me a renewed sense of motivation for style.  I love this city.

Day 1:

Since I'm a bride-to-be, Krystle made sure we stopped to see everyone's favorite wedding gown shop: Kleinfeld! I didn't try on dresses (saving that for just mom and me) but the window display was enough to fill me with glee.

The Barney's make-up department didn't know what hit them when we walked in. We made friends with the associates, giggled up a storm and bought some amazing products.

My outfit under the coat:

Nighttime required a new location and an outfit change. We started at Nurse Betty and then went to a bar with a secret entrance and a name I don't recall.

Fly looking super fly.

More to come... ;)
